Privacy policy

This page explains what information Droppa collects when you use the Droppa app or this website, why we need it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.

Who this covers

This policy covers the Droppa app for riders and drivers, and the Droppa website. “Droppa”, “we” and “us” mean the operator of the Droppa service. Last updated: 12 October 2026.

Questions about this policy or your information: support@idroppa.com.

Information we collect

Everyone with an account

  • Your name, phone number and, if you give it, your email address.
  • Your password and the answers to your security questions. Both are stored scrambled; we cannot read them.
  • A profile photo, if you add one.
  • The phones you sign in on (device type and an identifier), so we can protect the account and send notifications.
  • Messages you exchange with your driver or rider through the app, and messages you send to support.
  • Ratings and reports you give or receive.

Riders

  • Your pickup and drop-off places, and your location while you are requesting or taking a trip.
  • A home address, saved places, emergency contacts and trusted drivers, if you choose to save them.
  • Your trips and deliveries, what they cost, and how you paid. For a mobile money payment we record the mobile money number used. We do not see or store your mobile money PIN.

Drivers

  • Your licence number, national ID number, date of birth and address.
  • Photos of your documents and vehicle: driving licence, national ID, police clearance, a selfie, and vehicle and number-plate photos.
  • Your vehicle details.
  • Your location while you are online or on a trip, including when the app is in the background or the screen is off. This is how riders are matched with a nearby driver and how a trip is followed. We do not collect your location while you are offline.
  • Your trips, earnings and plan payments, including the mobile money number used to pay.

Website

  • What you type into a form on this site, such as an application to drive or a business enquiry.

Why we use it

  • To create your account and keep it secure, including checking that a sign-in on a new phone is really you.
  • To match riders with drivers, show the route, work out the fare and complete the trip or delivery.
  • To check that drivers and vehicles are who and what they say they are before they carry passengers.
  • To take payments and keep the records that accounting and tax rules require.
  • To send you notifications and messages about your trips, your account and your payments.
  • For safety: to look into reports, accidents and disputes, and to prevent fraud and misuse.
  • To fix faults and improve the service.

We do not sell your information, and we do not use it to show you other companies’ advertising.

Who we share it with

  • Your rider or driver. A rider sees the driver’s first name, photo, rating, vehicle and number plate, and where the driver is during the trip. A driver sees the rider’s first name, rating, and the pickup and drop-off places. Calls and messages go through the app where possible.
  • People you choose. If you share a trip or use the emergency feature, the people you chose receive your trip details and location.
  • Companies that work for us. Payment processors and mobile money operators (to take a payment), SMS and email delivery services (to send codes and messages), Google and Apple (to deliver notifications), Google and Mapbox (to show maps and routes), and the company that hosts our servers. They may use the information only to provide that service to us.
  • A business or fleet you ride or drive for. If your trips are booked by an organisation, or you drive a fleet owner’s vehicle, they see the trips connected to them.
  • Authorities. When the law requires it, or when it is needed to protect someone’s safety.

Where it is kept and how it is protected

Your information is kept on servers in South Africa. Some of the companies listed above process it in other countries.

Information travels between the app and our servers over an encrypted connection. Passwords and security answers are stored scrambled. Only staff who need the information to do their work can see it.

How long we keep it

We keep your information for as long as you have an account. When you delete your account, your personal details, photos, documents, location history and payment numbers are removed. Trip, delivery and payment records, and safety reports, are kept without details that identify you, because accounting, tax and safety rules require a record.

Your choices

  • See and correct your details in the app, under Profile (riders) or Settings (drivers).
  • Delete your account and data in the app or by email. The steps are on the delete your account page.
  • Location and notifications can be switched off in your phone’s settings. The app cannot find you a ride, or offer you trips as a driver, without location.
  • Ask for a copy of the information we hold about you, or ask us to remove part of it, by emailing support@idroppa.com from the number or address on the account.

Children

Droppa accounts are for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has opened an account, email support@idroppa.com and we will remove it.

Changes to this policy

When we change this policy we update the date at the top of this page. If a change is significant we will tell you in the app before it takes effect.
